Kathmandu: Speakers at a discussion program highlighted the importance of promoting Science Diplomacy to further strengthen relations between scientists from Nepal and Russia.
At the event titled “Nepal–Russia Scientific and Technical Relations: Building Trust and Collaboration through Science Diplomacy,” organized jointly by the Russian House and the Nepal–Russia Science Society, participants expressed confidence that greater scientific cooperation would also help deepen diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Chairperson of the Nepal–Russia Science Society, Ganesh Shah, noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1956, the two countries have shared a strong foundation of mutual trust, respect, and scientific collaboration, particularly in education, technology transfer, and research. He stressed the need to expand cooperation in areas such as science, technology, and space research.
Former Ambassador Shambhuram Simkhada said Nepal–Russia relations should be viewed as a key opportunity in the context of emerging science and technology, urging greater involvement of the younger generation in research and innovation.
Anastasia Khokhlova, Counselor of the Russian Embassy and Director of the Russian House, shared that Russia has been offering full scholarships with special incentives to Nepali students, and that cooperation between the two countries in science and technology has grown significantly in recent years.
Other speakers also emphasized the need to take Nepal–Russia relations to new heights through expanded diplomatic engagement, knowledge exchange, and joint research.
