Kathmandu: Kami Rita, popularly known as Everest Man, breaks his own record as he ascends the peak of the World’s Tallest Mountain, Mt. Everest, for the 31st time under stable weather conditions.
Kami, a 55-year-old Nepalese Sherpa, guided a group of Indian army officials up the mountain to set foot on its 8,848m summit at 04:00 AM on Tuesday.
Taking on his father, who was among the first Sherpa guides, Rita first set foot on his mountaineering journey in 1992 and has since stood on top of the 8,848.86-meter (29,032-foot) summit each year.
“I am more happy that my climbs help Nepal be recognised in the world,” said Kami as reported by AFP.
Moreover, Rita’s feat comes one week after British mountaineer Kenton Cool summited Everest for the 19th time, also breaking his own record for the most climbs for a non-sherpa, as reported by the BBC.
According to the Department of Tourism, Nepal has issued more than 1,000 climbing permits this season, including for Everest and other peaks.
Rita continues to inspire the global mountaineering community with possibilities to summit Everest for the 32nd time, continuing to break his record.
