Kathmandu: At the request of the Government of Nepal, FBI forensic specialists are working alongside Nepal Police to support disaster victim identification following the devastating floods. The FBI provided specialized humanitarian expertise, helping authorities identify victims and provide answers to families of Americans and all victims of the tragedy through coordination with the Nepali government.
Given the scale of the more than 200-kilometer flood corridor and the need to ensure accurate identifications, the process requires careful and methodical work. The FBI is coordinating with Nepali authorities at all levels to work as expeditiously as possible.
As search and rescue efforts continue, the United States remains committed to assisting Americans in locating their loved ones and supporting Nepal. The thoughts of U.S. Embassy in Nepal are with all those affected, those who have lost loved ones and an embassy continue to hope for the safe return of those still missing.
