Germany Pledges Additional 11 Million Euros for Flood Relief in Nepal

Kathmandu: Germany has pledged an additional 11 million euros for relief efforts in Nepal, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the country amid challenges following the Gen Z revolution and devastating Bhotekoshi flood.

German Ambassador to Nepal H.E. Udo Eugen Volz announced the assistance while addressing a celebration of German Unity Day and 68 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Germany in Kathmandu on Friday, November 6.

The funds will be channelled through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), UNICEF and AWO International, according to a press statement issued by the German Embassy.

GIZ will focus its relief work on energy and health, two key areas of longstanding development cooperation between Nepal and Germany.

The event, hosted by Ambassador Volz and his wife Marianne Beck-Volz at their residence in Gyaneshwor, was attended by Rt. Hon. Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest and more than 400 guests.

The celebration also marked the reunification of Germany following the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989.
