Kathmandu: The Hong Kong government has removed the provision of a transit visa for Nepali passport holders travelling to and from other countries via Hong Kong.
The Nepali Consulate General in Hong Kong has stated that this rule has been issued with effect from November 15. The embassy has stated that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China government has taken this decision due to continuous diplomatic initiatives and requests.
The rule requiring Nepali passport holders to obtain a visa for transiting through Hong Kong International Airport was implemented in June 2005.
Hong Kong Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Nepali citizens were suffering due to the mandatory transit visa. With the removal of such a constraint, the travel of Nepali passport holders travelling through this airport is expected to be easier.
