Indian PM Modi Congratulates Sushila Karki on Becoming Nepal’s First Woman Prime Minister

Indian PM Narendra Modi reaffirms India’s support for Nepal’s peace, stability, and prosperity under the new interim leadership.

Kathmandu: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his warmest congratulations to Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s Interim Government. Modi, who is currently on an official visit to Manipur, conveyed his message both through social media and a public address, highlighting India’s strong ties with Nepal and his confidence in the country’s democratic journey.

On social media, Indian PM Modi wrote, “I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal.”

Addressing a gathering in Manipur, PM Modi reiterated his sentiments on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians. “I extend heartfelt congratulations to Sushila Ji on becoming the Prime Minister of Nepal’s Interim Government. I am confident that she will pave the way for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nepal,” he said.

Calling Nepal a “close friend nestled in the lap of the Himalayas,” Modi emphasized the shared history, faith, and progress that bind the two nations. He hailed Karki’s appointment as the country’s first female Prime Minister as “a shining example of women’s empowerment,” adding that it reflects Nepal’s democratic resilience even in a period of political instability.

PM Modi also praised the role of Nepal’s youth during recent events, noting their inspiring voluntary work of cleaning and painting the streets amid the protests. “The positive spirit and dedication of Nepal’s young men and women is not only inspiring but also a clear sign of a new dawn for Nepal,” he remarked.

Modi concluded by reaffirming India’s unwavering support for Nepal’s future, expressing confidence that the historic transition under Karki’s leadership would mark a new chapter of peace and inclusive development.
