Kathmandu: Nepal and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on biodiversity conservation, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental protection.
The agreement was signed on February 25 in the presence of Nepal’s Minister for Forests and Environment, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, and India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav. Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Shankar Prasad Sharma, signed the MoU from the Nepali side. Whereas Vir Vikram Yadav, an Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change signed the document from Indian side in New Delhi.
The milestone MoU aims to promote the sustainable management of biodiversity in Nepal through enhanced collaboration between the two countries. The agreement is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise and best practices in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management and environmental sustainability.
Officials said the partnership would further strengthen Nepal-India ties in the environmental sector, contributing to regional efforts to address biodiversity loss and promote sustainable development.
The signing reflects the shared commitment of Nepal and India to conserving natural resources and protecting ecological systems for future generations.
