Kathmandu: Nepal has taken over the leadership of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for the 2025–2026 term. The handover took place during the ADPC Board of Trustees meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 12.
At the ceremony, Rajendra Singh, Chief of India’s National Disaster Management Authority, formally handed over the leadership to Dinesh Bhatta, Executive Director of Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Representatives from Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines attended the event.
Upon assuming office, Chair Bhatta expressed his commitment to enhancing the Centre’s governance, leadership, and institutional development. He highlighted the ADPC’s vital role in advancing disaster risk reduction and climate resilience to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Asia and the Pacific.
The sixth meeting of the ADPC Board of Trustees, chaired by Bhatta, emphasized strengthening regional cooperation and capacity-building in disaster management and climate adaptation.
Headquartered in Bangkok, the ADPC is an autonomous international organization dedicated to promoting safer communities and sustainable development through disaster preparedness and resilience-building. Pakistan will serve as the Centre’s co-chair during this term.
