Kathmandu: Nepal played out a 2–2 draw with Sri Lanka in the women’s category of the SAFF Futsal Championship, which began in Thailand on January 13.
Sri Lanka took an early lead when Thermika Sivaneswaran scored in the second minute. Nepal responded strongly, with Manisha Thapa Magar equalising in the 11th minute before Bimala Chaudhary put Nepal ahead in the 15th minute. However, Sri Lanka levelled the match again through Tharili Liyanage in the 25th minute, and the game ended in a draw.
With the result, both teams shared one point each.
Nepal will next face Maldives on January 15, followed by matches against India on January 17, Bangladesh on January 19, Pakistan on January 21 and Bhutan on January 25.
The SAFF Futsal Championship is being held for the first time.
