Khotang: At the moment, the “Mundum Trail” footpath, which is one of the 100 tourist destinations determined by the Nepalese government, has blossomed. Anyone who goes there is enthralled by the sight of various colors and species of flowers blooming in the same forest and forest around Mundum Trail.
The red, white, and pink colors of the flowers blooming in the green forest and grasslands around the Mundum trail are captivating to anyone’s heart.
Mundum Trail, which starts from Tawabhanjayang, a tourist spot in Khidima, Sakela Rural Municipality-3, Khotang, says that local and foreign tourists are coming to Mundum Trail at the moment to see the blossoming Laliguras, chimals and champs in the surrounding forests.
The team led by Ojanbabu Acharya of Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality-1 Diktel Bazar, who recently completed the Mundum trail trek, said that the area is very attractive.
Lal Bahadur Magar ‘LB’ of Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality-11 Kharmi, Sanjiv Rai of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-3 Chasmitar and Sanjit Rai of Sakela Rural Municipality-3 Khidima participated in that team. As the Mundum Trail is a unique gift of nature, trekkers say that they travel at least twice every year, in spring and autumn. “On the Mundum Trail, various colors and types of grasses are in full bloom at this time. In other places, the grasses are blooming in the wings. But here, you can find the grasses in full bloom”, he said.
Established as a unique combination of natural beauty, biological diversity, cultural heritage and adventure trekking, the Mundum trail area is currently becoming a more scenic destination as it is covered with thickets. Researchers have said that 18 different species of gourds have been identified in the area around Mundum Trail, and the exact data is yet to come.
LB Magar said that he used to go to Mundum trail as soon as he had free time to enjoy nature. “In addition to being able to enjoy nature while going to the Mundum Trail, you can heat the cow’s milk and eat it yourself. You can even ride the horses reared in the meadows there”, he said, “This time the trip to the Mundum Trail was even more unforgettable. It was a joy to see so many colors and species of buffaloes for the first time.”
With the onset of spring, local residents have brought sheep, goats and horses to the grasslands around Mundum Trail for grazing. Laxman Sampang, a sheep breeder of Kepilasgarhi rural municipality-1 Fedi, said that the meadows in Mayung, Merung and Dhodre areas around Mundum trail are suitable places for sheep rearing.
This Mundum Trail, located on the border of East Hill District Khotang, Bhojpur, Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha, is related to the history of the Kirant community. The Mundum trail on the border of Khotang and Bhojpur ends at 3,165 meters Temkedanda, Mayung, 3,750 meters Salpapokhri and 4,165 meters Silichung.
It takes about 13 days for foreigners and 10 days for Nepalis to complete the Mundum trail, which is built on the top of the hill. Ramesh Rai, Chairman of Mayung-Temc-Salpa-Silichung Tourism Promotion Center has informed that for the domestic and foreign tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in the spring season, they will not feel tired while traveling while observing the blooming flowers.
The large grasslands, wide range of sheep and goats, as well as horse riding, have been attracting more domestic and foreign tourists. The path has been named as ‘Mundum Trail’ because there are most of the settlements of the Kirant community on the trail and the Kirati lifestyle, customs and culture mentioned in their oral book ‘Munmum’ will be described.
You can also play hide and seek with different species of birds, red pandas, thar, bhirmauri and different species of wild animals found in the duck pond area of Mayung. Another attraction of this area is that you can enjoy watching more than one and a half dozen species of Gurans, Champ, Katus, Lokta, various herbs and dense forest.
With the increase in the number of tourists on Mundum Trail, which is sparsely populated, the local herdsmen arrange food and accommodation for them. By upgrading the traditionally operated Goth and arranging the Goth-Stay (Gothwas) system, priority has been given to local products such as local dishes, cow’s milk, phapar, millet and wheat grains, local chicken, radish greens, potatoes, beans.
