Kathmandu: The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Nepal, Abdulla Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Alshamsi, delivered a keynote address at the Ramadan 2026 Iftar hosted by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Kathmandu on February 25.
Welcoming distinguished guests, Ambassador Alshamsi said he was honoured to speak on the theme “The UAE and Humanitarian Effort: A Sustainable Strategy to Serve Humanity.” He noted that Ramadan serves as a reminder of service, social responsibility and cooperation among nations and communities.
Highlighting the UAE’s global humanitarian engagement, Ambassador Alshamsi said the country has adopted humanitarian work as a core pillar of its national policy, launching initiatives that extend support to vulnerable communities worldwide. He cited a recent statement by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announcing the launch of the “Life’s Savings” Ramadan campaign aimed at saving five million children under five from malnutrition and hunger.
Amid ongoing global crises, Ambassador Alshamsi shared that the UAE ranked as the third-largest humanitarian donor in 2025, contributing $1.46 billion and pledging more than $500 million for 2026. He also referred to initiatives such as “Al-Faris Al-Shahim,” which supports disaster relief efforts, hospitals, schools, infrastructure development, food security, healthcare services and women’s empowerment programs worldwide.
He further noted that the UAE has extended $3 billion in assistance to Gaza, including food supplies, medical aid, hospitals and water support, reaffirming the country’s commitment to humanitarian principles.
The event brought together diplomats, government officials and members of the Nepali community to observe the spirit of Ramadan and strengthen ties between Nepal and the UAE.
