UAE Strengthens Global Water Leadership Ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference

Kathmandu: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reinforced its commitment to global water security and sustainable development during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026 through a series of high-level engagements and international partnerships focused on advancing water action.

Led by H.E. Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, the UAE brought together government leaders, financial institutions, development partners, youth representatives, and private-sector stakeholders to accelerate preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal in Abu Dhabi in late 2026.

During ADSW 2026, the UAE highlighted the importance of investment, innovation, youth engagement, and agrifood resilience in addressing global water challenges. A high-level dialogue titled “Next Drop: Water Investments and Innovation,” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Masdar and the Global Climate Finance Centre, explored ways to mobilize finance, scale technology, and strengthen global water resilience.

The event brought together ministers, development banks, commercial financial institutions, philanthropies, and technology leaders to discuss innovative financing mechanisms, governance reforms, and technological solutions for sustainable water management.

The UAE also co-hosted a high-level roundtable on Water and Agrifood Systems, examining the links between water management, food security, and climate resilience.

These initiatives reflect the UAE’s growing role in global water diplomacy and its commitment to fostering inclusive international cooperation. As preparations continue for the 2026 UN Water Conference, the UAE remains committed to working with international partners, including countries such as Nepal, to advance practical solutions for water security, sustainable development, and climate resilience.
