Kathmandu: UN ECOSOC President, Lok Bahadur Thapa participated in the High Level Political Forum side event, Accelerating Action for Mountain Regions: Delivering on the five years of Action (2023-2027). In the event, President Thapa stressed that “the future of mountains is inseparable from the future of sustainable development.”
As we look ahead to the 2027 SDG Summit, mountain regions must receive greater attention in global climate and sustainable development efforts. Protecting mountain ecosystems is essential for water security, food security, clean energy and climate resilience, he stated.
Likewise, UN ECOSOC President Lok Bahadur Thapa participated in the 2026, High Level Political Forum side event on Civil Society, Civic Space, and the SDGs, where President thapa stressed that “ the distance between today’s commitments and tomorrow’s outcomes will not be measured only by investment or innovation. It will also be measured by participation.” “No society has ever achieved sustainable development through governments acting alone. We must ensure that civic space remains open and participation remains real,” he further stated.
