Jhapa: A joint delegation of senior officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the European Union (EU) conducted an onsite visit to Bhutanese refugee camps in eastern Nepal to assess the living conditions of refugees.
The team visited the Beldangi Camp in Damak and the Pathari Shanischare Camp in Morang, interacting with refugees and local stakeholders. The delegation included EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo, UNHCR Representative to Nepal Monique Sokhan, UNHCR Senior Officer Sangita Khatiwada, Country Coordinator Bijay Bajracharya, and representatives from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), among others.
During their visit, the delegation held discussions with refugees to better understand their current situation and needs.
An interaction program was also organized at the Damak Municipality Office, where Mayor Ram Kumar Thapa and Deputy Mayor Regina Bhattarai Prasai shared their perspectives on the challenges faced by the local community and the refugees, as well as possible solutions for coexistence and support.
