Kathmandu: Ken Shimizu, FAO Representative for Bhutan and Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Gauri Kumari Yadav, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, to discuss ongoing efforts to strengthen Nepal’s legal and institutional framework for Geographical Indications (GI) and promote Nepal’s unique origin-linked products.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on advancing a robust and internationally aligned GI system that can support producers, strengthen value addition, enhance market opportunities and contribute to Nepal’s export ambitions. The Ministry appreciated FAO’s technical support and welcomed continued collaboration to further refine the framework and draw on international experiences and good practices. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation and advancing technical dialogue in support of Nepal’s efforts to establish an effective and credible GI system.
FAO stated that they remain committed to supporting the Government of Nepal in developing practical, inclusive and internationally recognized systems that help unlock the value of Nepal’s distinctive agricultural and traditional products.
