Kathmandu: The Embassy of Japan commemorated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal. Takahata Kiminori, Head Priest of Shorenji temple, Nara Prefecture, who also happens to be a biologist successfully revived the lotus flower whose seeds were collected from Kudan archaeological site at Lumbini, and subsequently grown at Koya Town, Wakayama Prefecture. According to Takahata, the blooming of this Lotus is significant as they originate from Kudan, the place where it is believed that the Buddha was reunited with his father after attaining enlightenment.
Koya Town and Lumbini both have Buddhist heritage sites registered in UNESCO World Heritage. The planting of the lotus commemorates seven decades of friendship, mutual respect, and cultural exchange between our two countries.
The Embassy stated, “Like the lotus, may the friendship between our two nations continue to grow, blossom, and inspire future generations!”
