Kathmandu: H.E. Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, addressed the General Debate of the 19th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP19). He reaffirmed Nepal’s steadfast commitment to advancing the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Recalling Nepal’s constitutional guarantees of equality, representation, and social justice, Ambassador Thapa highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen accessibility standards, expand social protection, and enhance disability support measures.
While referring persistent resource, capacity and technology gaps, he underlined the need to bridge those gaps with stronger partnerships.
Ambassador Thapa also called for disability inclusion to be mainstreamed across policies, budgets, and development programmes and emphasized the importance of meaningful participation, accessible technologies, inclusive education, healthcare, decent work, and strengthened international cooperation to advance the implementation of the CRPD and the SDGs.
