Kathmandu: H.E. Lok Bahadur Thapa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, spoke at the UN Security Council Open Debate on “Honoring the Promise of International Law to Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.” During the debate, he expressed deep concern over the increasing scale and brutality of conflict-related sexual violence. He highlighted the challenges posed by protracted conflicts, shrinking humanitarian access, persistent impunity, underreporting, and funding shortfalls, all of which continue to deny survivors justice, protection, and recovery.
He underscored the need for strong political will and unwavering commitment to prioritize CRSV agenda, uphold international humanitarian and human rights law, ensure accountability for perpetrators, invest in early warning and prevention mechanisms, and empower women and girls as agents of peace and security.
Ambassador Thapa also emphasized the importance of sustained international cooperation, predictable financing, and robust support for survivor-centered services to translate global commitments into meaningful protection and lasting impact.
