Ambassador Thapa Speaks at the UN Security Council Open Debate

Kathmandu: At the UN Security Council Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, stated that the promise to protect children in armed conflict is under severe strain amid rising grave violations worldwide. 

Ambassador Thapa reaffirmed that protecting children is not only a mora responsibility, but a legal obligation and a prerequisite for peace, stability, and Justice. 

He called for strengthened compliance with international law, protection of education and schools from attack or for military use, enhanced accountability and monitoring mechanisms, integration of child protection into peace processes, and increased investment in prevention, diplomacy, and recovery.
