Kathmandu: FAO Nepal participated in the National Workshop on Rabies Control held at the Veterinary Laboratory, Dhangadhi, bringing together federal and provincial stakeholders to strengthen coordinated action on rabies prevention and control to achieve the global target of “Zero by 30”.
Ken Shimizu, FAO Representative for Bhutan and Nepal, highlighted FAO’s continued support to Nepal’s rabies and zoonotic diseases prevention efforts, particularly in strengthening laboratory capacity, enhancing surveillance systems, and building technical competencies of human resources at national and sub-national levels.
The workshop, attended by Honourable Bir Bahadur Thapa, Provincial Minister for Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, senior officials from the Department of Livestock Services, and One Health partners, underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to advance the goal of eliminating dog-mediated human rabies deaths. Honourable Minister highlighted the importance of joint efforts and reiterated the commitments from the provincial government in controlling Rabies.
