Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal Meets Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal for Consultative Dialogue on Nepal’s Diplomatic Engagement

Kathmandu: Hon. Shisir Khanal, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, held a consultative meeting with Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kathmandu, on May 24, 2026.

Amb. Dr. Parajuli Dhakal, a former Ambassador of Nepal to Oman and Spain, and a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in bilateral relations, multilateral engagement, and international affairs, leads four institutions at the forefront of Nepal’s diplomatic landscape: the International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), the Ambassadors Club Nepal, The Diplomat Nepal, and the Diplomatic Academy Nepal (DAN).

Drawing on her rich diplomatic career and institutional knowledge, she envisioned and established these initiatives to strengthen Nepal’s soft power, advance Track 1.5 and Track 2 diplomacy, and position Nepal as a credible voice in global affairs.

The consultative meeting covered a broad agenda central to Nepal’s evolving diplomatic priorities. Discussions focused on deepening collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and non-partisan institutions, economic diplomacy, investment promotion, and country-specific bilateral engagement. Importantly, the meeting also addressed the need for continued reforms and modernisation in the means and methods of diplomacy — including digital diplomacy, institutional capacity building, and innovative approaches to representing Nepal’s interests effectively on the world stage.

Minister Khanal appreciated the vision and contributions of Amb. Dr. Dhakal’s institutions and affirmed the Ministry’s full support for their work in complementing Nepal’s foreign policy objectives. He expressed strong encouragement for continued reform-oriented dialogue and collaboration.

Amb. Dr. Dhakal reaffirmed her organisations’ continued commitment to partnering closely with the Ministry in driving Nepal’s diplomatic reforms and advancing diplomatic excellence at home and on the world stage.
