German Embassy Supports Four Development Projects in Nepal

Kathmandu: The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nepal has signed cooperation agreements with several organizations to implement four development initiatives under its Small Grant Development Project 2026, providing a total funding of 86,330 euros.

One of the projects, “Empowering Marginalized Women through Eco-Craft Skills and Cooperative Enterprise,” will be implemented by Anurodh Nepal in Lahan Municipality, Siraha District. The initiative aims to train Madheshi and Dalit women in bamboo and banana-fiber eco-craft production, entrepreneurship, and cooperative management to strengthen economic independence and promote sustainable livelihoods. The embassy will provide up to 13,860 euros for the project.

Another project led by Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST) in Pokhara Metropolitan City will support women caregivers of persons with disabilities and vulnerable family members. The program will establish cooperative-managed livelihood enterprises and skill development initiatives such as sewing and beekeeping, with funding of up to 24,300 euros.

Similarly, the “GreenRide to Prosperity” project by Lakshyadeep will assist marginalized households in Itahari Sub‑Metropolitan City, Ward No. 15. The project will provide training in e-rickshaw driving, help participants obtain driving licenses, and supply e-rickshaws to vulnerable families. The embassy will contribute up to 24,270 euros.

Another initiative will be implemented by the Lutheran World Federation Nepal, which supports newly arrived refugees with food, shelter, and protection services. The project also aims to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities and strengthen refugees’ health, psychosocial well-being, and livelihood resilience, with funding of 23,900 euros.

Speaking on the occasion, German Ambassador Udo Eugen Volz said that Germany and Nepal share a strong and multifaceted partnership, adding that the small-scale grants are designed to complement larger government-to-government cooperation by supporting community-based initiatives that benefit marginalized groups across Nepal.
