Kathmandu: The Government of Japan has decided to extend grant assistance of four hundred and ten million Japanese Yen (¥410,000,000),(approximately NRs. three hundred and ninety million) to the Government of Nepal for the scholarship programme for young government officials (called JDS) and the signing ceremony was held on July 28 .
H.E. Maeda Toru, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Ghanshyam Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance signed notes to this effect on July 28. Honorable Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Ministry of Finance, and Mr. Akihiko Tanaka, President of JICA, attended the signing ceremony.
It offers Nepal’s young government officials scholarships for two-year master’s degree courses and three-year doctoral level courses in reputed Japanese universities. After completion of their studies, the JDS fellows are expected to engage in formulating and implementing socio-economic development plans and evolve as leaders in Nepal, as well as contribute to the expansion and strengthening of friendly relations between Japan and Nepal.
On this occasion, Ambassador Maeda said that JDS in Nepal has been quite successful both in terms of strengthening the capacity of government officials and expanding cooperation between Japan and Nepal. The Ambassador also expressed his hope that the grant assistance signed on July 28 continue to contribute to the development of Nepal.
