Kathmandu: Nine officials and engineers from Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MOEWRI) and Nepal Electricity Authority ( NEA) participated in a Capacity Development Training Program in Japan under “The Project for Promoting Import and Export of Electricity and Improving Power System Stabilization” from 6 to 17 September 2026.
The eleven-day program provided valuable insights into Japan’s advanced power system management, including power dispatching operations, frequency control, grid stabilization, and equipment maintenance. Participants also visited the Nambara Pumped Storage Power Station to observe how flexible generation and balancing capacity support stable electricity supply.
Participants also gained real time experience of power trading, capacity market and regional grid operation by visiting and discussing with the Organization for Cross-Regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO).
Japanese experts delivered lectures on power dispatching, frequency maintenance to strengthen the practical insights of the participants. The program concluded with action planning discussions on applying Japanese expertise to strengthen Nepal’s power grid and advance regional electricity trade.
According to JICA Nepal Office, JICA is committed to supporting Nepal’s sustainable energy transition, grid stability, and cross-border power trading initiatives.
