MoFA Launches Summer Internship for Policy Research

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced the launch of the MoFA Nepal Summer Internship 2026, an eight-week research programme that will place selected interns within the Ministry to contribute independent policy research on foreign policy priorities of Nepal.

The programme will be conducted by the Institute of Foreign Affairs, Nepal, and is open to graduates and professionals both within Nepal and abroad.

The programme offers selected interns an opportunity to engage in policy-oriented research to contribute independent policy research on foreign policy priorities of Nepal.

Nepali citizens, Non-Resident Nepali cardholders, and people of Nepali origin are particularly encouraged to apply. Nepal-based professionals and researchers are equally welcome.

The Ministry stated that the Summer Internship will run from mid-June to mid-August 2026 and will accept a cohort of interns working across ten defined research clusters under the themes of strategic affairs and public international law; development finance and investment diplomacy; emerging technologies; climate diplomacy; and diaspora policy. Interns will work independently to produce original policy research, with outputs considered for publication through the Institute of Foreign Affairs.

Shisir Khanal, Minister for Foreign Affairs, said, “Nepal is at a moment that demands us to think beyond our immediate priorities. Governance and economic growth are our focus today, but tomorrow’s world will be shaped by artificial intelligence, clean energy, and domains we are only beginning to understand. We have Nepali citizens and diaspora professionals with the knowledge and commitment to help us think through these questions. The MoFA Summer Internship is one of those platforms to bring that expertise into government where it can be put to use.”

The Ministry has offered selected interns direct access to senior officials and policy discussions, structured mentorship, desk space during working days in Kathmandu, and the opportunity to publish through the Institute of Foreign Affairs. Interns who complete the programme will be inducted into a growing network of professionals connected to the work of the Ministry.
