Nepal Consulate General Organizes Interaction Program on Nepal’s Trade, Transit and Investment Facilitation in Kolkata

Kathmandu: The Consulate General of Nepal successfully organized their “Interaction Program on Nepal’s Trade, Transit and Investment Facilitation” at Taj Bengal, Kolkata on May 13. The programme served as an important platform for discussions on enhancing Nepal-India cooperation in the areas of trade, transit, logistics, connectivity, and investment.

The programme was attended by Rajendra Raman, Chairman and other senior officials from Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK); representatives from Kolkata Customs; shipping lines and logistics service providers; members of the Kolkata Customs House Agents Association and Nepal Customs House Agents Association; members of the business community, including importers, exporters, and investors; Nepalese traders; media representatives; and other distinguished participants from the public and private sectors.

A thematic presentation on “Nepal’s Trade, Transit and Investment” was delivered by Deepesh Lekhak, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate, highlighting Nepal’s trade and transit framework, investment opportunities, and initiatives aimed at strengthening Nepal-India economic cooperation. Ravi Shankar Rajhans, Traffic Manager of Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Port in Kolkata, also delivered a presentation on the facilities available at the port, ongoing infrastructural developments, and measures being undertaken to facilitate Nepal-bound cargo movement and improve transit efficiency.

The interaction session provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views and offer constructive suggestions relating to trade facilitation, customs coordination, logistics management, connectivity, and investment promotion. Issues and concerns raised by participants were addressed by the Consul General, Jhakka Prasad Acharya. The programme was moderated by Gagan Bahadur B.K., Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata.

In his closing remarks, Consul General Acharya expressed appreciation to all participating organizations and stakeholders for their valuable support and engagement and reaffirmed the commitment of the Consulate General to continue working closely with all concerned stakeholders to further promote trade facilitation, connectivity, and bilateral economic cooperation between Nepal and India.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by a luncheon hosted by the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata.
