Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal, in partnership with the Embassy of Sri Lanka, celebrated the International Buddha Jayanti (International Day of Vesak) with a special ceremony at the historical and world-famous Buddhist temple of Thailand, Wat Pho.
The ceremony had notable participation including ambassadors from different countries, head of the United Nations Federal Economic and Social Commission (UNESCAP) for Asia and Pacific Region, representatives of the Thailand government, diplomats from different countries, Buddhist religious teachers, academics and the members of Nepali and Sri Lankan community. The ambassadors of Sri Lanka and Nepal delivered welcome remarks and best wishes in the program and said Buddha’s teachings have an important role in establishing peace, tolerance, sustainability and promoting moral lifestyle in the current world.
The chief monk of Wat Pho, His Excellency Somdet Phra Mahathirachan Thero gave a special address in the program. Flower offering and Buddha worship was conducted by monk Pahalawela Dhammakitti Thero of Mahachulalongkorn University.
Similarly, the sermon was delivered by Abhot Monk Fr Anil Sakya Thero, assistant of Wat Bovoronives Vihar. Buddha’s teachings in Dharmadeshana had a special emphasis on providing guidance to address challenges including global peace, environmental crisis, social harmony and moral leadership.
The program was presented with Healing Sound by Nepal’s singing bowl expert, musician and sound therapy practitioner Mr. Aman Shahi. Meanwhile, the meditation session was conducted by Abhot monk Phra Bhavajrajan (Ajan Kewli) Thero of Wat Pa Nanachat International Forest Bihar.
