Kathmandu: Nepal took part in its third Trade Policy Review (TPR) at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva on November 17. During the meeting, Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to a rules-based multilateral trading system and shared key legal, institutional, and policy reforms made since 2018 in the areas of trade and investment.
Nepal highlighted efforts to support women and youth entrepreneurship, strengthen climate-resilient trade infrastructure, and attract more investment into the country.
A total of 42 WTO Members took part in the review. Seventeen Members submitted more than 187 questions to Nepal in advance. Several Members praised Nepal for its active engagement in the multilateral trading system, its ratification of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, and its preparations for graduating from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026.
The Trade Policy Review is a transparency exercise where WTO Members present and discuss their trade policies to promote understanding and accountability.
The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Kairat Torebayev of Kazakhstan, with Ambassador NAGAI Katsuro of Japan serving as discussant.
Nepal’s delegation was led by Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, along with Ambassador Ram Prasad Subedi and other officials from the Ministry and Nepal’s Permanent Mission in Geneva.
Nepal’s Trade Policy Review will conclude on 19 November 2025.
