Kathmandu: The Nepal Red Cross Society has encouraged youth and women to take leadership roles in the elections from the municipality to the center.
The Society has paid special attention to their meaningful presence in the leadership roles of all levels of the society including the president/chairman/general minister/general secretary. Under this, women and young people in the age group of 18 to 30 years have been encouraged to apply for leadership positions and have made nomination registration free of charge
According to the statute of the Society 2020 (including the eighteenth amendment 2082), it is ensured that the participation of women in the organization will be at least 33 percent, while the society has a youth red cross commission at the central level, a provincial youth red cross committee at the state level, a district youth red cross committee at the district level and a municipal youth red cross committee at the municipal level.
According to the statute, the central committee of the society, which consists of 21 members, has one female vice-president and five female members.
There is a rule that there will be participation of three women members including one woman vice-chairman in the provincial committee, which will be a fifteen-member committee, and two women members, including one woman, from the youth committee.
There will also be a committee of 15 members in the district branch of the Society. There is a provision that there should be one female vice-chairman and three female members, while the district-level youth committee will have two members including one female selected from among themselves.
According to the arrangement, there will be a committee of 15 members in the municipality branch of the Society, there will be one female vice-president and three female members.
Similarly, it is stipulated in the statute that two people including at least one woman from the municipal youth committee will participate. In the working committee of nine people, it is mandatory to have one woman as the deputy chairman and treasurer, and two women as members.
There is also a provision that youth and women can run for open membership at all levels. IFRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has also been emphasizing on the leadership role of women and youth in the Nepal Red Cross Society.
The Society has started the election process of municipal, district, state and central committees across the country. According to which, from May 26 to June 4, 2083, all municipal branch committees, district branch committees on June 15, all seven state committees on June 2, and the representatives appointed for the Central Assembly from among the municipal representatives who came to participate in the session of each state assembly, as well as the central committee elections have been scheduled on June 24 and 25.
