UNDP, UNICEF, and Power Shift Nepal Host Local Youth Conference to Drive Climate Action

Kathmandu: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nepal, Power Shift Nepal, and various youth-led organizations jointly organized the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Nepal 2025 on November 1.

The conference brought together over 100 young participants from across the country, providing a platform to amplify youth voices on key climate agendas, including Loss and Damage, the Mountain Agenda, Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0, and Climate Finance. Discussions focused on examining these themes through the lens of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and community-led local action to challenge false climate solutions.

Moreover, the event also featured insights from Dr. Maheshwor Dhakal of the Climate Change Management Division under the Ministry of Forests and Environment, UNDP Resident Representative Kyoko Yokosuka, Youth Representative Megha Maske, and Child Representative Jayanti Bam.

The conference concluded with a reaffirmation that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the driving force behind today’s climate action.
