Women Across South Asia Address Challenges of Climate Change, Peace, and Security

Kathmandu: Women across Nepal and South Asia are at the forefront of addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, peace, and security. 

The leadership of the women across Nepal and South Asia’s leadership is strengthening resilience and fostering more peaceful, inclusive societies, from community peacebuilding to climate adaptation. 

Opening the special session on ‘Climate, Gender, and Security: Reframing Women, Peace and Security for a Changing World,’ UN Women Nepal Deputy Country Representative, Barsha Pradhan, emphasized that today’s security challenges extend beyond conflict to include the growing impacts of climate change on communities, livelihoods, and social cohesion.

In Nepal, women have been instrumental in leading community responses to climate-related disasters, demonstrating that women’s leadership is essential for climate resilience, sustainable peace, and security.

This dialogue is part of the Partnerships for peace – Commemorating 25 years of the Women, Peace and Security ( WPS) Agenda programme. 

Through the Women , Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda programme,UN Women and the Government of Japan are forging partnerships to accelerate the meaningful participation of women in peace and security decision-making and processes at all levels across Asia and the Pacific, including in Nepal.
