Businesswomen are active in promoting tourism in Eastern Nepal

Kathmandu: Businesswomen have started a campaign with the aim of promoting tourism in Eastern Nepal.

In collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board, the women’s tourism business network has conducted promotional visits and interactions in various tourist destinations of Koshi Province with the aim of promoting the tourism potential of Eastern Nepal to the national and international level. Businesswomen visited various destinations in eastern Nepal from June 18 to 21.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, women entrepreneurs active in the field of tourism visited the new and established tourist spots of Koshi Province and discussed with local stakeholders and communities.

During the visit, he discussed the challenges of tourism development and future strategies with the local government, tourism professionals, Gharbaas program operators and local communities.

According to the board, the chairman of the network, Jaya Baral, said that Koshi province is a rich region of Nepal in terms of natural, religious and cultural aspects in the program held at Sri Antu;  the main tourist spot of illam. 

“It is necessary to connect the beauty of eastern Nepal with local agriculture, culture and lifestyle and develop it in the form of ‘agro-tourism’, this will strengthen the rural economy of Nepal,” Baral said. She said that each local level should identify its original characteristics and create an integrated tourism package.

Kanchana Baral, Treasurer of Antu Tourism Business Association, informed that facilities ranging from low-budget homestays to high-class star hotels are available in Antu area, from where the first sunrise of Nepal is seen. she demanded the government to increase the government budget for the construction of tourism infrastructure and bring a clear tourism policy.

Similarly, Dhankumar Ale, president of Antudanda community ‘homestay’, said that the homestay network should be further strengthened for the expansion of tourism in the villages of eastern Nepal.

Ward President of Suryodaya Municipality-5 Urgen Bamjan said that the local government is investing in roads, footpaths and other infrastructures considering tourism as the main basis of development.

He said that the budget has been allocated for tourism development in the current financial year and priority has been given to programs that connect women and local communities with tourism.

The sightseeing tour team started from Kathmandu and visited the destinations including Koshi Barrage, Jhapa, Sri Antu and Barah Kshetra in Ilam. It is said that the campaign will greatly help the promotion of new destinations as well as women’s entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism development.
