Kathmandu: The Embassy of Germany marked World Environment Day through Clean Energy and Safe Waste Management in Dhulikhel. In Dhulikhel, the long-standing health and energy collaboration between Germany and Nepal came together around services that are vital to people’s daily lives: waste management for environmental safety and dependable energy for vital medical services.
The German Development Cooperation, which includes GIZ, KFW, and the German Embassy, celebrated two significant milestones on June 3 with the Dhulikhel Hospital and the Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC): the opening of the Dhulikhel Hospital Solar Project and the Healthcare Waste Management Treatment Site with autoclaves, which are high-pressure steam sterilizers for waste.
Recyclable trash recovery supports Dhulikhel Hospital’s goal of establishing a Center of Excellence for Healthcare trash Management Training, a model for higher standards throughout Nepal’s health sector, by generating revenue to reinvest in hospital services. Additionally, this strategy incorporated national guidelines into professional and academic training programs.
Reliable electricity implies that patients can receive healthcare services without interruption. The Embassy stated that safe waste management implies a safer and cleaner workplace for health professionals.
The Embassy concluded that Nepal’s priorities, local ownership, German assistance, and workable solutions that reach communities are examples of community ownership and international development cooperation in action.
