Kathmandu: H.E. Lok Bahadur Thapa, President of UN ECOSOC, was honoured to open the 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
In President Thapa’s opening remarks, he stressed that “The world does not need another catalogue of challenges. We know the challenges.” He stated that what is needed is greater coherence, stronger partnerships, more effective international cooperation, faster implementation, and, most of all, better delivery and impact on the ground.
He said, “Now, with less than five years remaining until 2030, the challenge before us is not simply to move faster. It is to work differently, collectively and resolve.”
He stressed that the implementation can no longer be approached one Goal, one sector or one institution at a time. It requires policies that are integrated, partnerships that are stronger, and international cooperation that is more effective.
