Kathmandu: Consortium of South Asian Think-Tanks (COSATT) and the Political Dialogue Asia Programme of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) hosted a book launch on ‘Youth Movements in South and Southeast Asia’ in Kathmandu on May 9. The book explains the reasons behind the youth protests in Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal by authors from those countries and brings forth the similarities on issues such as corruption, unemployment, youth frustration with ageing leadership for youth protests. Lawmaker Ranju Darshana, Shreeti KC and Janak Pokharel have written the Nepal chapters.
Professor Sanjay Bharadwaj Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi and Asanga Abeyagoonasekera from Colombo spoke on the various aspects touched by the book at the programme while journalists Parshu Ram Kaphle, Kosh Raj Koirala and academics Chhatra Karki from Kathmandu University and Pitambar Bhandari from Tribhuvan University did an academic review in terms of chapter wise critique of the publication. Andreas Klein, Director of the KAS and Nishchal N. Pandey, Convener COSATT also spoke on the occasion.
